Who loves the Yankees?

A couple of years ago my family decided that it was to difficult and expensive trying to buy something for everyone in our growing family, so we started drawing names for Christmas. This year I drew my sister in-laws name. She is a huge Yankees fan so I decided that a Yankees quilt would be the perfect Christmas gift for her. I love double sided quilts so I am doing a gingham design on the front and a solid blue with a large Yankees logo on the other side.
To make the gingham design I cut 5" squares in dark blue,  light blue and white Kona cotton fabrics...
Notice the atrocious points on the quilt? Well I would like to blame my machine but really it is user error. Earlier this year I purchased a new sewing machine and because of moving shortly after buying it this is the first quilt I have sewn on it. I am not sure how often I forgot to change it back to the quilt setting but it has resulted in my having to take a large part of the quilt apart to correct my mistakes. I have been sewing since I was about 10 years old so when I make rookie mistakes like this it is soooo irritating.
This quilt is a great beginners quilt. In my next post I will do a quick tutorial on it. In the mean time read a great article on matching points here.

A New Start...

After taking a couple of years off of blogging I have decided to try and make a go of it again. I have had a hectic past couple of years with my husband deploying to Afghanistan and the birth of our first child. With those two things considered I have not been sewing quite as much I have wanted. If you look at my "Projects" page you will see a few additional quilts that I managed to finish over the last couple of years.
One of my most recent projects included two quilts for twin boys...
I love the way that these quilts turned out... Super simple but adorable.
I did a echo star design for the quilting on one of them which I LOVE and will definitely be doing this again. The quilting went really quick on this one. The other one I was really ambitious and decided to do several different styles of quilting in each block. Needless to say it took me a bit longer to quilt.
